Values of Philanthropy

July 12, 2018, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

What are the values of philanthropy? What is the value of philanthropy in monetary terms, and for society? How does philanthropy affect people’s lives? In this lecture, I present recent and new research on philanthropy, describing its current state, historical trends in the development of philanthropy, and its antecedents and consequences. In addition, I reflect on the virtues of philanthropy. What are the virtues expressed in philanthropy? And what should they be?

These are the questions I will address in the keynote during the ISTR Conference on July 12, 2018. Time: 5.30 PM. Venue: Aula, main building, De Boelelaan 1105.

The full text upon which the lecture is based is available here.
